Instructional Video Series
Blending Routines DVD
Blending Routines spotlights the four different methods used by most commercial reading and language arts core and intervention programs to teach students to sound out and blend words. The video includes demonstrations of sound-by-sound blending and continuous blending, which are important techniques for beginning readers; whole-word blending for students who have more mastery; and spelling-focused blending to help students transition to automatic word blending. The use of each blending method is discussed and time for participants to practice each method is included.
Running time: 19 minutes, 6 seconds
Audience: K–12 literacy educators
Format: DVD

Foundation Skills for Teaching Reading DVD
Foundation Skills for Teaching Reading is a three-video set designed to provide educators with an understanding of the linguistic underpinnings of learning to read and two critical foundational skills essential for reading success: phonics and multisyllabic word attack skills. These topics do not represent all of the components of learning to read. However, by understanding the structure of English phonemes, basic principles of phonics instruction, and multisyllabic word instruction, educators will have the knowledge necessary to help students decode words rapidly and accurately, which in turn leads to fluency, a necessary condition for reading comprehension.
Running time: 49 minutes, 19 seconds
Audience: K–12 literacy educators
Format: DVD

CORE Reading Coach Video and Facilitator Guide
The CORE Reading Coach Video models a three-phase strategy for a coach that includes initiating and planning, executing, and reflecting and giving feedback. Coaches can use the strategies to help teachers learn program routines, identify needs and instructional procedures for struggling students, and use data to plan important adjustments. The video helps coaches develop strong listening skills, analytical skills, leadership skills, flexibility, persistence, empathy, and creativity. It is designed to be used with groups of coaches as part of their personal professional development, or it may be used at school sites to assist the coach-administrator team.
The Facilitator Guide contains a sample one-day agenda for a professional development session and provides a blackline master for participant handouts.
Running time: 20 minutes, 30 seconds
Audience: Reading coaches and administrators
Format: DVD and booklet

Testimonials
"CORE's second edition of the Teaching Reading Sourcebook joins my collection of great books for making a difference in scientifically based practices. Combined with Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures, these resources provide a practical link to instructional planning by showing what to assess and how to interpret the data for good decisions."
– Mark R. Shinn, Ph.D.,
Professor of School Psychology, National Louis University
"San Bernardino City Unified School District has used CORE's Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures as a guiding tool in developing the district assessment plan for determining the types and frequency of assessment for individual students as well as determining placement in intervention programs. The second edition of Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures will continue to provide this guidance and support as we continue to refine the progress monitoring of our most fragile learners."
– Jean Snell, Director of Elementary Instruction,
San Bernardino City Unified School District
