CORE Announces National Literacy Events, Winter and Spring 2008–09 - NEW!

Accelerate achievement and close the achievement gap! CORE’s national institutes and workshops target the needs of adolescent readers and K–12 Response to Intervention (RtI) implementation.

Adolescent Literacy Coach Institute
November 6–7, 2008
Berkeley, CA

The two-day Adolescent Literacy Coach Institute is designed for teacher leaders, department heads, and literacy coaches serving middle and high schools. Participants learn to support literacy implementation across content areas and within reading and intervention classrooms.

RtI: Response to Instruction and Intervention Institute

This three-day institute is designed to lay the foundation for the implementation of a Response to Intervention or Response to Instruction (RtI) system for K–12. Participants learn what comprises the three tiers; what types of assessments are necessary to make this model work; how to determine core, supplemental, and intervention materials; and guidelines for establishing a problem-solving approach and setting up teams.

CORE Academic Literacy Series—Strand B: Vocabulary Development and Comprehension Strategies and Text Structures: This two-day series focuses on enhancing vocabulary knowledge and comprehension proficiency.

CORE Sees Ongoing Test Score Improvements in Hawaii Elementary School

Students at Ala Wai Elementary School, a once-struggling elementary school in Honolulu, continue to make surprising gains in their reading test scores. The latest score reports show that 70% of the second and third grade students are meeting benchmarks in oral reading fluency.
